Hi, I’m Kevin Ivasku

Owner of Capital Canine Dog Training, Head Trainer and proud small business owner. When I started Capital Canine I began my mission to help as many dogs and to educate as many human as possible. I believe that dogs are truly an amazing gift the world has given us and we should do everything in our power to build a strong, meaningful bond and give them the best life possible.

I’ve been training dogs professionally for over 7 years and have worked with over a thousand dogs alongside their owners. I started Capital Canine because I wanted the challenge and freedom of working for myself.

My personal approach to dog training isn't just about training “sits” and “come”, in my opinion that's rather boring. I enjoy learning about each individual dog so we can build a clear understanding, engage in the things your dog loves to do, and help them be more social, calm and confident when out in the real world and around distractions.

The Capital Canine Difference

One of my favorite questions to be asked is, “why would I pick you over any other trainer or company?”

The best dog trainer isn’t someone who can teach your dogs new things, it’s someone who can help your dog overcome bad behaviors and learn how to maintain control and manners through adversity.

Over the last several years I’ve worked with many owners who’ve come to me frustrated with their dog’s behaviors despite already completing a training program because the moment their dog is around distractions, or having a moment of anxiety, fear, or aggression they revert back to old behaviors. The problem is that commands can be taught fairly quickly, but transforming behavior requires more work.

My training philosophy is structured around 3 core principles:

1) Help dogs understand what we want from them

2) Develop the skillset to perform commands, manners, and behaviors

3) Provide the necessary tools required to keep training consistent, no matter the environment or situation

Meet the Home Team

  • Zeke

    Hello. I’m Zeke.

I’m an 11 year old German Shepherd. I take all of the credit for helping my dad (Kevin) start his dog training journey and getting his butt out of the corporate world so he could make his passion his career.

My dad adopted me when I was 2 years old, back when I didn’t have any gray hairs on my face. While I acted like an angel the first couple months after getting adopted, I began showing some concerning behaviors as I got more settled and comfortable in my new home (My dad says this is pretty common). We eventually enrolled in training that helped him learn how to communicate with me and helped me calm down when I was getting overly anxious or out of control.

I was so happy when my dad started his own training company so I could have more time with him and help other dogs learn during their training program. While I don’t love dogs with a ton of energy running at me full blast, my dad says I do a good job of setting boundaries. You might see a muzzle on me from time to time but this isn’t because I’m a “bad dog” but because I like my own personal space at certain times.

  • Ghost

(Read in a fast, high pitched voice for full Ghost effect) HI! I’m Ghost! Do you want to play ball?

This year I turned 6 and I’m a Border Collie. Dad (Kevin) says that I’m bred to be on the farm herding sheep from sun up to sun down. This must be why I love playing ball and frisbee so much.

Dad takes me to a lot of events that he does for his business and says that I’m a good example of how a high energy dog can still learn to be calm and control their energy. My favorite part of these events is showing off my tricks but also helping little kids learn how to approach and say “hi” to a new dog.

I love life and being part of the Capital Canine team. Each day I wake up, I’m ready to start the day and help out in anyway I can. Dad says that I do a great job working because I’m a good distraction for the dogs that he is training. While I’m comfortable laying down on my bed while the other dogs are training, I love the part of a dog’s training program where I can distract them by playing ball and then of course being able to play with all my old friends and new at camp!
